Ivory, a 2 year old Shepherd mix, did not have an easy start to life. She was found under a house very pregnant and afraid. After being rescued and finding safety, love and care in a foster home, Ivory gave birth to her 8 puppies who have all since found their forever homes. Now, Ivory is slowly and surely learning the world isn't as evil and cruel as she suspected. She is very shy and slow to warm up to people, but give her time and patience and she will bond to you, cautiously approaching you for pets with a wagging tail. She tends to bond to one person in the household and stick close to that person in the same room. She warms up much faster to women than men, but is becoming more used to men with her friendly foster dog siblings by her side showing her the way. She will need a home where all members of the family get involved with her socialization and training and be willing to work with her every day both in and out of the home. She is not a dog for first time dog owners and would do best in a home with a family who has been around shy dogs before and knows their needs. Because she is frightened by sudden movements, loud noises and lots of people, she would do best in a quiet and calm environment without too many visitors or busy activity and with only dog-savvy children older than 10 years old that will respect her space.

Ivory is crate trained in her current foster home, but she doesn't need to be crated when you leave as long as she is in the same room as her foster dog siblings. Her foster dog siblings are teaching her how to play and she likes to occasionally wrestle with the similar sized dog (30 to 40 lbs) in her foster home. Ivory gains a lot of comfort from her dog friends and she benefits from having a confident dog(s) to learn from and to keep her company when her people leave. She will need a calm and already self-assured, easygoing dog sibling in her forever home to help show her the way and build trust with her family. She can be a little frightened when big dogs play too rough around her and prefers dogs with a similar energy and play style to hers. Ivory has also been tested with a dog savvy cat and was a little afraid and mostly indifferent to her so she would be fine living in a home with cats.

Ivory is a smart girl who will need a secure yard and cannot be left in the yard unsupervised or with unsupervised yard access. She likes to go for walks and walks loosely at your side. She is low to medium energy and is happy with 2 short walks a day. She is not interested in being a running buddy or going for long walks for several miles. Ivory does shed quite a bit, but she enjoys being brushed and she tolerates baths. She is not interested in toys at this time, but she does like soft dog treats, hot dog and chewing air-dried chews. She is house trained and has generally good house manners. Ivory is looking for a special family that can look past her shy, timid nature and see the beautiful girl within. This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in its current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and to learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is to complete the Adoption Form on our website at www.labsandmore.org and take some time to review our adoption process. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. The safety and health of our puppies is priority one, so we only allow approved applicants to meet and handle puppies. Please understand everything we do is for the dogs and conducted by our kind and generous volunteers. We rely solely on donations, and we do not profit from a dog's adoption. Labs and More is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates on donations and time dedicated to this cause by volunteers. Your adoption will save the life of future dogs in need. Labs and More makes no guarantees regarding the behavior, breed, or age of the dogs in our care. Although we strive to provide necessary medical care to dogs in our care, we cannot predict future or current medical needs whether they were symptomatic or not at the time of adoption.
