Ruston is a true diamond in the rough. He is not a dog that greets strangers enthusiastically but give this little guy a chance and you will have a devoted friend for life! Ruston is around 2 years old and most likely a mix of a few different dog breeds but we think he is a Whippet mixed with possibly Pointer. He is slender, around 30 lbs, with long legs full of speedy bounce! Ruston came to Labs and More very shy and scared but now he is learning what is like to have a warm bed, a good meal and be showered with lots of love. He is submissive and slow to trust, but given time, patience and love, he starts to open up and have fun. He will need a family committed to continuing to work on socialization with him. We think he would do best with a kind, patient family that is familiar with shy dogs already and the training and socialization they need to help them open up. Because he startles easily, he is not the best dog to take to dog beaches off leash or off leash areas that are not enclosed. At home, once he has settled in, Ruston is a different dog, friendly and happy-go-lucky. He likes to play with toys and chase after tennis balls. He is quite the cuddly pup and loves to snuggle with his people on the couch or dog siblings in their dog beds. Ruston is house trained and crate trained. He has been left uncrated for a few hours with his dog friends in the house and has done well. He sleeps in his dog bed or foster parents' bed quietly overnight. Ruston gets along with other dogs and loves to play with the dog friends he knows. He would do best in a home with a confident canine sibling to play with and to keep him company and show him the world isn't a scary place. Although he can get nervous around crowds and people on bicycles, Ruston walks well on leash with his confident canine siblings and walks a few miles once or twice a day. He likes his treats and knows sit. Ruston is a very well-mannered, tender-hearted little boy who is looking for a gentle, compassionate family to help him continue to come out of his shell. This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in its current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and to learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is to complete the Adoption Form on our website at www.labsandmore.org and take some time to review our adoption process. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. The safety and health of our puppies is priority one, so we only allow approved applicants to meet and handle puppies. Please understand everything we do is for the dogs and conducted by our kind and generous volunteers. We rely solely on donations, and we do not profit from a dog's adoption.
